Strong house was constructed in the main street, a few doors east of Red Lion Tower It carried a 1607 date stone. The 1607 building, no doubt constructed by by Sir Richard Lowther, was demolished in 1969. It had been a two-storey house, 31 by 20 feet, with internal stairs and other refinements, most of which had suffered at the hands of renovators before it was raised. (Dodds 1999)
