East gable of 19th century house built onto west end of probable bastle (quoins etc). Re-set door with chamfered jambs in late farmbuilding on site (Ryder 1984).

The present 19th century farmhouse is built onto the west end of an earlier building, c.10m by 6.5m externally, which has probably been a bastle. This is built of heavy rubble, with elongate roughly shaped quoins. Apart from the west gable, incorporated in the present house, the walls seem to have been reduced in height all round, and the building reroofed as a byre. There is an old square headed doorway (without any chamfer) set south of centre in the east gable; inside there are apparent remains of hearth corbelling at the west end. The inner faces of the walls may have been cut back (Ryder 1994-5). (Northumberland HER)
