This is the site of a small castle, built here in 1202. It was last mentioned in 1753, and no remains can be seen today. (Keys to the Past)

Towers, at least two. One completed and destroyed. Possible mention of two, taken 1385. Nothing mentioned 1415; two little towers 1541; later one mentioned, destroyed between 1753 and 1852. Sites probably in NT/sq 9952. (King 1983)

Gatehouse Comments

Vanished C16 tower(s) destroyed between 1753-1852 (King is certain there were at least two although one is clearly Tweedmouth Castle) Dodds suggest tower was on site of earlier tower (presumably he means Tweedmouth castle). The SMR record seems to assume that that Tweedmouth castle was this C16 tower. Long identifies this tower with Bathers Tower, Spital. Given map reference is for parish church of Tweedmouth.
