There are two farmhouses at Townhead, (East Woodburn), and the more easterly one contains a fragment of a bastle in its walls. It does not look at all like a bastle now as there are extensions at the rear and one end, the windows are relatively new, and the roof has been changed. (PastScape ref. Dodds 1999)

Gatehouse Comments

Dodds source for suggesting a bastle here is not given. The evidence, a thick wall, is slight but the general location is entirely probable for a bastle.
