Gatehouse Comments

William Plompton was granted a licence to crenellate 'walls and towers around and within his manor of Plompton' in 1474, along with licence to impark all his lands in Plompton. The Plumpton's died out in 1749 and there lands were sold, by Act of Parliament, to Daniel Lascelles who demolished the manor house. The manor house was presumably on, or near to, the mid C18 house call Plompton Hall. Site of a DMV. Lascelles did not complete his grandiose scheme for a new house and park but it would seem likely he did have the money to completely demolish the earlier house leaving little opportunity to say much about this house other than it did exists and it had two towers.
