Egton Hall. "Applies to the site of an ancient Hall situate in the village of Egton. The site was pointed out by Mr Joseph Readman of Egton, who remembers the Hall before it was burnt down about seventy years ago. This is mentioned as the Old Hall or Castle of Egton in Young's History of Whitby and is thought to have existed in the 13th century". (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Reputed site of C13 medieval castle was probably a manor house of the de Mauleys. PastScape records the site as burnt down in the early C19. Clark lists a Castle Hill at Egton. It is uncertain if this is the same as the manor house.
