According to Nichols, there was a castle here and there is a possible motte situated 200 yards south of St. Mary's Church. However, there is no clear fieldwork evidence, nothing is known locally, and no documentary evidence exists. (Cantor)

Alleged motte and earthworks of possible village shrinkage. Field investigation in 1972 found no evidence of a motte, but confirmed the presence of village shrinkage. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

There is a Moat Farm at the location and the site, south of the church, is that of a manorial centre. However, McWhirr and Winter suggest this was a small moated site which seems entirely reasonable.
