The foundations of a castle, called Castle Cary, are visible in the grounds of Abbey House, above the Cock River, Aberford. Situated between Cock Beck and the deep ravine through which flows the Crow, a stream rising on Hook Moor SE 4435. (Gough) Abbey House (now known as Aberford House) is situated at SE 43363716 in a natural setting of some strength. There are, however, no indications of a former castle within its grounds, and the owner was unable to offer further information. (Field Investigators Comments–F1 ECW 27-NOV-63). (PastScape)
