King notes a possible motte and bailey citing Ford and located only approximately in square SD5273.

There are a couple of Bronze Age cairns in the civil parish including what was described as a substantial funerary cairn at Manor Farm (SD52157253) and a smaller scheduled cairn east of Manor Farm at SD52387285. Was Ford suggesting one of these as a motte? Alternatively was Ford actually referring to the motte and bailey at Maurholme Manor in the parish of Warton but only 1.25km (0.8 miles) from Borwick?

Gatehouse Comments

It should be noted that King usually used the term 'possible' for sites he had significant doubts about. Gatehouse has not seen the note by Ford but suspects this was actually a misinterpreted reference to the Manor Farm cairn.
