embanked as dependency of its castle (King 1983)

Gatehouse Comments

It is suggested that there may be embanked defences of the village associated with the castle. The evidence for this seems slight. The castle bailey earthwork are damaged and their line is perhaps not as clear as may be suggested by some plans. Given map reference is for parish church which, along with the church yard, does lie on an apparent raised platform but this seems to be natural, modified by the road, being something of a holloway.
