Gatehouse Comments

There are no indications of earthworks now present at this site. Site is clearly a heavily ploughed field. It is halfway up a low spur, on the spring line, overlooking the village, and within 300m of the church. It overlooks the River Lugg but is 1km from the medieval crossing point, of which it does not have a direct view. Most likely a field with the holding of some grand house rather than the site of a castle, although quite which house is a good, if currently unanswered, question.
