A low mound with a possible bailey underneath farm and other associated earthworks have been tentatively identified as a possible castle site. Aerial photographs indicate possible field systems stretching to the east. (Shoesmith)

Gatehouse Comments

Appears to be described as a moat in the SMR. Castleton is a deserted medieval village, possible a failed proto-borough associated with 'castle' which may also have failed and ended up as homestead moat.
