Mound, at Court Farm, 30yds N of St Michael's Church is c 36 yds in diameter and has a flat top; it rises from 5-7ft above the wide ditch which surrounds it. The ditch has an outer bank, but the eastern half of the ditch has been destroyed, as has the SE corner of the mound, by the construction of a garden (RCHME). Symbol for "small fortress, fortified manor house or castle site abandoned by the 14th century", shown in this area (Rees). The ringwork at Court Farm consists of a sub-rectangular mound the western half of which is enclosed by a shallow dry ditch. The mound rises some 1.8m out of the ditch which has a maximum depth of 0.7m. Probably a motte (Field Investigators Comments F1 DRB 04-MAR-71). (PastScape)
