A well defined moated enclosure now dry, but in mainly good condition. No structural remains are visible. Earthworks at TA 1295 6421 appear to be the remains of two (Possibly three) fishponds. (Field Investigators Comments F1 ECW 07-APR-64) Originally a complex site. The moats on the modern OS map appear to be fishponds lately enlarged. Enclosed with "walls and ditches" by 1530. House on island (Le Patourel). Scrappy cropmarks of ditches at TA 1261 6443 and TA 1264 6404 are probably associated with the medieval earthworks mentioned above. At TA 1266 6432 broad cropmark may indicate a fishpond. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Described by Le Patourel as something rather more than a homestead moat although questionably if really strong enough to be considered fortified.
