King writes in a listed headed 'There may have been a castle at: ... moated works'.

NZ 356369 An unclassified archaeological site on air-photographs. A series of medieval enclosures are visible as earthworks on air photographs at NZ 3565 3564 (sic). These banked and ditched remains may represent the remains of a settlement. The ditch is the most northerly feature and forms one side of the enclosures, the other three sides consist of a series of banks. They features described are located to the east of Kelloe Hall farm. (PastScape 25892)

Gatehouse Comments

Kelloe Hall is, presumably, on or near the site of the medieval manor house of the Kellaw family, a knightly family of local importance only. Their manor house may have been decorated with martial symbolism but there is nothing to confirm this and the ditched earthworks reported in PastScape do not seem to be those of a moat. Was this actually what King was considering as a castle site?
