Gatehouse Comments

Moore records Pillesdon as near Beaminster. Wilton suggests this is a reference to Pilsdon Pen an Iron Age hill fort, which, according to PastScape contains two Bronze Age burial mounds, a medieval cultivation system and a post Medieval rabbit warren. Its isolated location makes it an unlikely place for a medieval castle, although it seems possible it was less isolated in the middle ages.
