Nothing known of castle mention by Moore. (King)

I hesitate to make the obvious connection with a misnamed Chideock if Mr King failed to come to that conclusion, but can offer no other explanation. (Wilton)

Gatehouse Comments

The reference occurs in a list of Castles of Dorsetshire in which Chidiock is also separately listed. In the 1786 list it is listed "Chidrick, 4 fr. Bridport" Chideock is 4 miles from Bridport. However in the 1798 list (which seems to be the document King was using) it is written as 4 miles from Blandford. It would seem to be a duplicate entry in Moore's list, which was made from several collated sources. A transcribing error where Bridport has been replaced by Blandford probably explains King's inclusion of 'Chidrick in Castellarium Anglicanum. This is unlikely as a separate castle from Chideock.
