King calls this a possible motte.

Gatehouse Comments

King used the term 'possible' for sites he was doubtful about (In Gatehouse 'possible' means more likely than not and 'doubtful' means less likely than not). Recorded as Bronze Age round barrow, with find of urns and incense cup in PastScape. Position over looks modern river crossing, but not older crossing point and is isolated from settlement. Clearly a burial mound and doubtful if used as a medieval motte. The site is very damaged, it was scheduled at one time but was descheduled in 1993.
