A farmhouse of two storeys and three bays with adjoining outbuildings; dated 1830 over the entrance. Adjoining farmyard buildings enclose the yard behind on three sides; one and two storeys built of stone from Hadrian's Wall. An old pele or bastle at Willowford was pulled down in 1839. It seems that the earlier house stood on the same site as the present farmhouse. The pele/bastle does not appear on the survey of 1603. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Sited in slight bend of Hadrian's Wall at turret 48B and built between the wall, which is in a fair state of preservation at this location, and the vallum.
