A tower is depicted at Haithwaite on the 1590 map of Cumbria, but as a house on the 1607 plot. The present Haithwaite farmhouse retains evidence of a stonehouse or bastle which was surveyed in 1994. (PastScape)
Bastle or possibly tower extended to make a farmhouse.
King quotes the 1590 map where it is shown as a tower. Marked as a house on the 1607 platt.
Denis Perriam noted the present farmhouse has an extremely thick wall which needed further investigation. (Perriam and Robinson 1998)
