Gatehouse Comments

This is a tree covered mound in an isolated area and, on landscape grounds, unlikely to be a castle site although being close to Calder Abbey increases the possibility of it being a castle. It's strategic location, overlooking a minor road through the hills, is also notable. It should also be remembered that glacial mounds in this area can seem man made. However it maybe this mound has had some conversion, but more probably into a tree stand rather than a motte.
