Emery lists that a licence to crenellate was granted to John Pylkington in 1477.

Traces of a moat which surrounded an earlier house at Turnham Hall are visible beside the modern farmhouse, built circa 1800; the manor house of Turnham Hall was mentioned as early as 1327 and included a chapel. Although the moat is said to have been destroyed at the beginning of the 19th century a slight depression can be seen on photographs from the 1940s. It is difficult to tell on later photographs whether any trace of the moat remains. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Called Thurnham by Emery but spelt Turneham in the rolls. This was, Gatehouse is informed by John Goodchild, Turnham Hall on the River Ouse near Hemingbrough.
