Llandre Gaer is a quadrillateral ditched and banked enclosure, 35m by 26m, resting on steep slopes to the NW. As a castle the site was described as, 'a confused conglomeration of broken ground'. (Coflein)
Damaged partial square ringwork by river crossing. (King)
The monument comprises the remains of an earthwork/stone-built enclosure. The date or precise nature of the enclosure is unknown, but it is likely to be later prehistoric or medieval. A single bank and ditch enclose a roughly rectangular area. The bank is about 12' above the exterior and 5' above the interior. The ditch is best preserved on the north-east where it serves as a field boundary, but it is largely filled in on the south-east and south-west. The ground falls steeply on north-west.
