Mound on left side of road from Hanmer to Bettisfield, N of Scrape Wood, W of pheasantries. 175ft x 140ft x 20ft (RCAHMW 1912, 108-9). Very large mound, partly cut by road. Top is flat. Even if artificial, it may be safely stated that it is not a tumulus (Davies 1949, 180). Part of a natural ridge running NW-SE which has been cut by the road, giving the impression of a separate mound. Mound slopes gently to NE and S, but more steeply to NW side where cut by the road. Ridge continues on the n side of the road, forming the west side of a dry N-S valley (CPAT 1999). Considered a possible motte by Spurgeon (Manley, J, Grenter, S & Gale, F, 1991, pp171). (Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER as unknown non-antiquity)
