Johannes de Benstede, clericus was granted, in 1307, a licence to crenellate mansum suum Eye, juxta Westmonaster. quod vocatur Rosemont. Sir John de Benstede was a prominent member of the English royal household in the late C13 and early C14. He was Prebendary of Sandiacre from 3 February 1297 until, presumably, 1308, when he married. He was also Secretary of State, and he served variously as Keeper of the Great Seal, Keeper of the Wardrobe (for Edward I), and as a royal judge from 1309 onwards.

Eye (Eia; Ebury) was a manor held by Westminster Abbey. The location of Rosemont within this manor is unknown but unlikely to be far from Abbey at given map reference.
