C17 Willey Lodge is towards the end of a promontory overlooking a narrow valley. There are some foundations which, it has been suggested, represent a keep. There is no indication of a bailey. (Shoesmith ref. Stirling Brown)

Does not appear to be a strategic site, and location is isolated and not a manorial centre. Whilst this may actually be the site of a medieval farmstead, possibly even one held by knight service, the suggestion of a masonry castle, or even a small tower house, seems fanciful. The map reference in Shoesmith is slightly to the NE of the current Willey Lodge, possibly where a partly tree cover feature is visible on the air photo.
