Mound of earth and stones 3.6m high up to 20m in diameter. Partly in garden of tower house mostly in field to S poss site of the tower which was a place where records were kept. Prob motte remains. (Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Nothing obvious on map or aerial photo. The Tower is a much altered late C16 house said to have been a watchtower for Castle Dinas Bran; this is possibly a fanciful suggestion. Doesn't seem to be an obvious place for a motte and a garden prospect mound with a fanciful 'history' may be a more likely explanation. Although the online Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER seems reasonably positive in calling this a motte (although this seems to be an old OS record) no author has taken this up which suggests the full HER is rather more dismissive. Needs proper examination.
