Gatehouse Comments

The position is close to road crossing of stream in narrow valley so there remains some possibility of this being 'taxation point' castle or a temporary work connected to controlling movement during various disputes in the area, although it does seem fairly easy to bypass. It is not entirely certain there was a mound here and if if there was one it must have been fairly slight to be so totally removed in this area where there has been little intense ploughing (and certainly no intense ploughing before 1913).
