Gatehouse Comments

No building is marked on modern map but a building of two squares in marked on the 1863 OS map and marked 'Dunstead (in Ruins)'. A square patch of darker greenery (I'm informed this is an area of nettles - which is suggestive of human habitation) is visible on the air photo at the location. Not recorded in PastScape or the Northumberland HER. It seems there was a building here of a size consistent with a bastle but what is the evidence this was a bastle other than this being an area of many bastles?
