Gatehouse Comments

Was isolated and no evidence of bailey on 1854 Map or air photo. Generally King used the term 'possible' for doubtful sites. Unlikely castle isolated from settlement and within a common. Commons tend to represent ancient open land and structures within them tend to be post-medieval. Whilst it may be possibly to consider that a temporary field work may have been constructed on common land there is nothing to suggest a battle or siege here. If this had been a more permanent residential castle then this would not be called a common. When was this first called castle hill?
