Bond list this site with coding for 'Long stretches remain' of ?C12 earthworks. Nothing in CARN which, even vaguely, resembles town defences and Bonds coding number may, therefore, be the not infrequent typo where 2 is mis-entered for 5 (in Bonds coding 'no visible remains'). Soulsby does not mention defences.

Gatehouse Comments

The town, which was substantial in the middle ages, was between two small waterways - the Afon Felin and the Afon Ysgolheigion with the castle on the open southern side, so additional artificial defences may not have been needed.
