King writes 'A possible castle site' Spurgeon writes site cleared in early C20, large scale OS map of 1879 shows two rectangular buildings, overlying a curving section of bank. This was the site of the manor house of a substantial freehold and the bank may have enclosed the earlier manor house, but "it cannot be held to attest a fortified site."
