It is uncertain if the present house incorporated remains of the original building, but it has no features of 17th Century date (Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust HER)

C17 house given possible medieval origin as possible castle by the welsh scholar and forger Edward Williams (Iolo Morgannwg). (King)

Gatehouse Comments

It seems likely there was a substantial house on the site possibly dating back to late medieval times but there is nothing, other than a 'castle' name (of later origin) to suggest this was fortified. The medieval house has been totally destroyed and the medieval landscape has been destroyed by C18 garden landscaping and a later golf course.
