"Greatly altered recently but claimed to be late medieval in origin"

Country house now college. Dated 1757, additions of 1878, major alterations of 1948-49. Originally for John Fountayne, Dean of York; attributed to James Paine (Listed Building Report)

Gatehouse Comments

Pevsner's suggestion does not seem to have been taken up by anyone else and the listed building report makes no mention of any medieval work. There must have been a medieval manor house, probably on this site, but its form is unknown and not likely to be significantly 'fortified'.
