Ringwork: Boat shaped earthwork on top of hill by Badger Slade. External ditch, internal bank more obvious at west end. Given as 'old encampment' on plan of 1745. Evaluation of 1997 failed to find internal features, so possibly it was some kind of livestock (deer?) coral. (Staffs HER).

Gatehouse Comments

Given the monument type 'Ringwork' and comes up on a search for 'castle' in the online version of the Staff HER. Seems to be an example of poor cataloguing. Location in Cannock Chase far from settlement. Area has been quarried and site probably now destroyed. Whatever it is/was certainly not a medieval castle.
