The C19 house was built on site of royal hunting lodge.
Rhinefield House is on the site of the most important hunting lodge out of three situated in the Bailiwick of Battramsley. It is first mentioned in 1579 as Suersbery Lodge, though from early descriptions of the Forest it is likely that a lodge stood on this site at least from the early C16. (Hampshire AHBR)
