There is now no trace of this mound and ditch in the field known as "Orchard Field" at SO 533999, and the owner, who has been resident here for ten years, knows nothing of it (F1 DRB 06-MAY-71). (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Close to Ruckley Hall Farm and possibly the site of a 'knight's fee' farmstead type motte. However, Ruckley was a part of Langley manor with the manor caput at Langley Hall. There is a chapel at Ruckley but this seems to date from the C13 and the original Ruckley Hall may also date from that sort of date which is well after the period of motte building in this area.
