Extended bastle. Present state - house (Ryder 1990). (Northumberland HER)

Shildon House and Shildon Cottage are the only survivors of an extensive settlement: thick walls in Shildon House and the ruins adjancent to the cottage suggest a C17 or earlier date. (Pevsner et al 2001)

Gatehouse Comments

The ruins now appear to have been converted into a garage. The fact that this house does not seem to called a bastle except once by Ryder in 1990 (it is not in his 1994, more extensive survey of bastles) may be significant.
