SE 44369504 The shape of Rough Haw Hall suggests a motte with a partly destroyed bailey towards Thimbleby Grange. (Annotated Record Map–Corr 6" (S V Morris, 15.6.57)).
This tree-covered conical hill, (similar to others along the foot of the Hambleton/Cleveland Hills escarpment) is an entirely natural feature. The ground to the S.of it falls away, and there is nothing to suggest the existence of a bailey. (Field Investigators Comments–F2 DS 27-NOV-72). (PastScape)
