Between 1536-43 Leland saw at Aldbrough, two miles south of Piercebridge 'great ruins of a house or little castle.' Possibly C13 manor house of Harsculph de Aldborough.

There appere great ruines in a valley of a howse or a litle castel at Albruch village, and thereby rennith a bekke. It standith a ii miles south from Perse Bridg on Tese. (Leland quoted in VCH)

Gatehouse Comments

Map reference for parish church. The lack of remains suggests the house did not have significant earthworks such as a moat.
