Following a survey of the coastal defences in 1539, small-scale efforts to defend vulnerable points were made, a small battery being created at Waxham. Its exact location is unknown, but it was probably near Waxham Hall. (Kent)

Gatehouse Comments

Given map reference to WWII pill box the location of which must have been similar tactical considerations although changes in coastal topography and the nature of ordnance mean this is probably not the exact location. The battery was probably earth filled wicker gabions and fairly quickly eroded away.
