"In Norman times a small fortification, probably nothing more than a watch tower, stood in what is now an orchard behind the Nant-y-glasdwr farm house". (Nothing visible on available AP's (RAF 1946). (Lilwall) There is no local knowledge nor any visible trace of an earthwork in the orchard though the extensive linear quarrying in evidence may have destroyed any remains. Gatehouse Comments

Phillips was unable to find any evidence of the site during his field work and notes the existing documentation is poor. This suggest if a motte then it was small and thus likely to be mainly symbolic representing the knightly status of a farmstead owner.Nothing marked on 1888 OS map. The given map reference is now covered by later farm buildings but marked as orchard in 1888. The field boundary of the orchard is eye shaped. This does not suggest a relic outline of an earlier timber castle.
