Ordnance Survey Aerial Photos of 1972 show what appears to be a ditched mound under the cover of trees in Elliots Wood. Motte? (Herefordshire Through Time)

Gatehouse Comments

However, it does not appear on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map. This appears to be half way up a steep slope. The site is within a marked loop of the River Wye but the strategic position to place a castle would be at the narrow neck of this loop where the two roads leading to a river crossing could also be observed and where there are pre-existing Iron Age earthworks. Doubtful and more likely to be barrow designed to be viewed from river.
