Site of a ditched, 'fortified' mount, levelled in 1971, but still evident as a cropmark. Mediaeval pottery was found on the site prior to levelling. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Before 1971, the mound was about 120ft in diameter and 4ft high. About 500m WSW of parish church. A couple of footpaths meet at the approximate location but this does not seem to be a site of a manorial centre. Manor Farm is 100m NNE of church and seems a more likely manorial centre. Bucks HER record reads 'Possible windmill mound known from field survey, now thought to be a medieval motte.' This requires further critical examination of the pre-demolition descriptions but, on the bases of location, appears more likely to have been a mill mound.
