The monument comprises the remains of a well-preserved medieval moated homestead, consisting of a rectangular platform surrounded by a moat. The site measures approximately 70m N-S by 80m E-W, with an additional platform on the eastern side measuring approximately 20m x 40m. There is a low outer bank on the south-west side, but on the east side the moat is cut into the slope. At the northern end of the east side, the stream has been dammed and pool probably would have been created at the eastern end. (Scheduling Report)

A rectangular platform, c.45m by 58m, enclosed by a moat, embanked to the W, c.10-12m wide except to the E, where an earthen dam thrown across a small dingle, now breached, formed the N side of a pond, c.35-40m by 67m. Gatehouse Comments

Scheduled under the broadclass 'defence'. The 1911 RCAHMW Inventory recorded it as a having the character of a 'small Roman station' but probably being 'of British construction'. It is not as well preserved as the scheduling report might suggest and heavily overgrown but clearly a medieval square moat of a fair size but probably not manorial or strong enough to be considered fortified.
