Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust record of medieval castle reads 'Name suggestive of defended site. No such feature apparent'
The open and elevated ground on the west side of the parish between Gladestry and Colva is called ‘Carreg Gwyn,’ but no information respecting a boundary stone or boulder with a tradition could be obtained. The nearest dwelling to the open heath-land is a ruined and deserted cottage called ‘ Castle ’ (lat. 52° 11' 2", long. 3° 9' 6" ; Tithe Schedule, No. 702), now annexed to the farm of Waun Wen; but no explanation of the name has been forthcoming.
