This much-disturbed mound, which stands about three-quarters of a mile from the parish church, is difficult of classification. It has every appearance of being a simple motte with no traces of a bailey. The present height of the mound is about 16 feet, with a summit diameter of 25 feet and a base circumference of 160 feet. The ditch has been almost entirely obliterated. (RCAHMW, 1925)

A 60m length of outward facing curvilinear scarp partially encloses a hilltop summit: this feature is ploughed down and ploughed out, cut by a road and mutilated by a silage pit. (Coflein)

Gatehouse Comments

Hillock with a vague scarp, described as a likely motte in 1915. In Hogg and Kings' 1963 early castle list but moved to the possible (meaning doubtful) list in 1970. Recorded in Coflein as U enclosure and in Dyfed Archaeological Trust HER Iron Age hillfort. In Davis's reject list but he writes possibly shaped into feeble motte. On top of a conical hill without access to water so not likely as castle.
