Part of embankment of NW side of village. This feature is visible also at the SW side SK 611330 and NE SK 615331.
Bank enclosing village - "village ring".
Town End earthwork section only identifiable on CS etc - source for NW-SW section unknown. (Nottinghamshire HER)
(SK 612334) Plumtree. A prominent bank and ditch runs along the NW boundary of the village and may originally have enclosed it. This is presumably a medieval earthwork cf. Saxondale (see SK 63 NE 24), perhaps marking off the home-closes from the arable and pasture beyond (Pevsner and Williamson 1979). (PastScape)
