Magilton draws attention to mounds at SE 658 087 in the grounds of the Bow House, incorporating a ruined ice house, and at SE 658 087 {sic}. In view of reusage for such purposes elsewhere, either or both could represent recycle mottes. (Sneyd 1995)

Gatehouse Comments

The windmill mound (SE65770871) shows up clearly on Lidar and looks nothing like a motte. No evidence of bailey, surrounding ditch etc. The icehouse mound (SE65920908) is not shown on 1st edn 6" OS map of 1907. It is under tree cover but but does show on lidar but seems too small to be a motte, a small dried out pond to the east of it should not be confused with a bailey enclosure. Both mounds can be rejected as mottes.
