The hillfort of Berry Ring is a univallate Iron Age Fort. Its defences are substantial, but have been disturbed through later agricultural activities. (PastScape)

It is thought that this was was the site of one of the three castles said to have been erected at Stafford. (Lynam)

Lynam doesn't cite a source for this statement, which he clearly doubts, and no other author has considered this the site of a medieval castle, although it should be noted a medieval chapel did formally stand just outside the defences.
